In Today's Proverb:

"...boasting is looking for trouble." Proverbs 17:19 (Living)
It seems that the love way is for a person to be humble, but to exalt others.

I understand it something distasteful for someone to go around bragging on themselves all the time.

According to the above proverb, one thing it does is, stirs up resentment and envy from others. People look at you differently (in a negative way).

I guess, some people just feel like they are letting others know their own value and worth?

When folks brag... are they thinking to themselves. "I am bragging right now"??

There are others who seem to actually inspire others by building up themselves?

But I wonder if people who constantly brag on themselves are taken seriously by others?
This is the real danger for these folks; do they lose credibility in the eyes of others?

Got any thoughts?

I don't think they realize that they are bragging. However, I do not think that those people are taken seriously.

I think they do lose credibility in the eyes of others.

It is one of the 7 things God hates in Prov.6:16-19
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers."

Interestingly enough...this topic just came up recently... I was around someone that was "bragging" about themselves. I noticed how others that were around seemed to become uncomfortable. I question why this person would intentionally want others to feel inadequate. After much thought and this blog, I don't think that they were doing it to make others feel bad....I think they were doing it because of an insecurity within themselves. I do think that others will see you in a negative light if you continue to boast about yourself.

I would agree about the insecurity. Everyone knows someone who has the one story better senario. Are they like this because they really have the better story. Probably not, they just need attention.

Bragger hre insecure the need something to boost their confidence in theirselves,it always seems to be belittleling to others.
I know at times it used to make me feel bad when I heard someone bragging about how good they were at something.
arrogance and boasting in the sight of God mmmmm not good that is one of the seven things God hates. Besides that satan was kicked out of heaven for something like that his pride.

Let's all take a minute and look at bragging like this: If we are bragging, we are putting ourselves first and ourselves on a higher level then other.
We are NOT giving God the Glory, or Praise.
So let's remember to give our Lord and Savior ALL the Praises & Glory for what He has given us, for without Him... we are nothing.
